Our Mission

Our intent is to explore both the diversity and kinship of the human experience through storytelling and portraiture, while also empowering participants to celebrate vulnerability, speak truthfully, release self-judgment and affirm the fortitude of their own spirits. We value each person for the immense courage and openness that it takes to share such intimate stories, and it is our commitment to create a space in which they can feel seen, heard and honored through this project.

From the Beginning...

We have put a large amount of trust into the higher purpose of this evolving creation, understanding that it is in service to something much greater than ourselves. After two years in process and over seventy participants, this book is its own living, breathing thing. Our role now is to feed it with the love and nourishment that it needs in order to grow into what it longs to be. It is our great privilege to bring this collection of stories out from the shadows, giving people a place to share experiences that have moved and touched their hearts, or shaped their lives in powerful ways.

The Courageous Storytellers

We have invited people from a diverse range of life experiences, ages and cultural backgrounds to participate in this extraordinary project. We crafted the invitation to be as broad as possible, allowing each person the freedom to select the stories that hold just the right amount of substance, and for which they can offer their own narratives to.

The experience of sitting with each person and looking into their eyes as they speak about some of their most vulnerable and sacred truths, has been profound. Time and time again we have witnessed the incredible resiliency that is required to move through difficult times, and the love that is needed to navigate our way through this world. It’s made us realize that we see hundreds of people a day or week for which we know nothing about, and whom are each carrying their own weight in joy or grief. Some stories we have in common, while others we could have never imagined possible, yet we’ve discovered that by looking deeply through the doorway of another person's reality we are welcomed into a kinship with all of life.
